Driver's license

What is the required or minimum age requirement to rent a car?

The driver should be at least 20 years of age and shall have held a driver‘s license for at least one year before renting a vehicle.

Is my driver’s license valid in Iceland?

Provided that your license is valid in your country or state, your driver’s license is acceptable. International drivers are not required but are also accepted.

Online booking

Can I rent a car for less than 2 days?

Yes you can, however our booking system requires a minimum of 2 days booked. If you want to return the vehicle earlier, please contact us and we'll arrange a drop off at suitable time.

I don't know my flight number yet, can I still complete the booking?

Yes, just send us the flight number using the contact us page when you have received it and we'll add it to the booking. Please include the booking reference.

Do you have any refund or cancellation policy?

If the renter cancels a reservation 30 days or earlier before planned pickup time the rental company will charge a cancellation fee which amounts to 25% of the total rental price.
 
If the renter cancels 7-29 days before planned pickup time the rental company will charge a cancellation fee which amounts to 50% of the total rental price.
 
If the renter cancels 0-6 days before planned pickup time or does not show up (no-show) the rental company will charge a cancellation fee which amounts to 100% of the total rental price.

Where is your office in Keflavík located?

Our office in Keflavík is located about 8 minutes from Keflavík International Airport, on Njarðarbraut 11, 260 Reykjanesbæ. Click here to see a map

What pick up and drop off options do you offer?

We offer various pick up and drop off locations in the Reykjavik and Keflavik areas including Keflavik International Airport. Pick up and drop off service is available 24/7 at all locations except at the Reykjavik office which is open from 8:00 until 23:00.

How does the Keflavik Airport Shuttle work?

One of our employees will be waiting for you in the arrival section of the airport (when you bypass the customs) with a name-tag with the renter's name on it. The employee will drive you and your group to our Keflavik Office where the rental terms are signed and you are handed the rental car.

If you choose the Keflavik Airport Shuttle as the drop off option, you must return the car to our Keflavik office and one of our employees will drive you and your group to Keflavik Airport.

On the road

Is there any mileage or distance limit (miles/km) I can drive my rented car?

There is no limit as to how far you wanted to travel using our car.

Am I allowed to drive in F-Roads?

All our 4x4 jeep are allowed to drive at F-roads while other vehicles are strictly forbidden to drive on F-roads and Kaldidalur (road 550) and Kjölur (road 35).

Do you provide road assistance?

Yes, Iceland Car Rental provides 24/7 road assistance for our renters. Call +354 511 5660 for assistance.

Insurances

What insurances are included?

With all rentals CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) is included at no additional price. You can buy additional insurances and SCDW to lower your self risk.

Payments

How can I make payment for my car rental service?

We accept MasterCard and VISA credit cards.

Is it safe to book in this site?

Yes, all your personal information will be held confidential in our site. The site uses verified SSL certificate to transfer all information, including personal information.

Why am I transferred to Valitor to make payments?

All payments are made on a secure payment site operated by Valitor, a leading online and e-commerce payment solutions company. Valitor offers highest level of security and is PCI DSS compliant, validated by the Payment Card Industry (PCI).
